I am so excited to be able to sit down and talk you Mermaids again. I have missed y'all so much. My Halloween season was incredibly busy but it was also so much fun. It was an experience that really fed my passion for the beauty industry and like I always say, Out of the Box is about self love and confidence. Out of the Box is about becoming or creating whatever you want to be. In my previous post I talked a little about my absence and what has been going on with Out of the Box. One of the things I was able to do was start playing around with Special Effects Makeup, which is a lot of fun and takes your creativity to a whole new level. I created a half burnt skin and skull look on myself. I was pretty proud of my work for it being my first SFX look. I will Link the post here. https://www.instagram.com/p/BLj9-4Xh7--/?taken-by=outoftheboxbeauty
I also got to create some very fun halloween looks. A Suicide Squad Joker, Monster High Zombie, and a ghoul. Being able to create these characters was an amazing experience. With the ghoul look I experimented with shading and special effects. After I was finished with the look it even scared and freaked me out! Doing the children's makeup for their Halloween events was a very rewarding and learning experience. Seeing their faces light up when they got to see their finished looks. A young girl's face glow after seeing her look and saying "More Blood, More Glitter!" Who doesn't want more blood and more glitter? I know I always do :) A shy, young boy seeing his reflection...Become the character of the Joker. Witnessing his excitement as he got to see his transformation come together with each step of his makeup was a true joy. I even stepped out of my comfort zone and created his tattoos. Seeing the children's faces light up once their Halloween looks were completed really took me back to my own childhood, when I was a kid I dressed up in costumes and applied makeup year round. My favorite day of the year besides Halloween was Nov 1st because that was when the stores marked costumes half off the original price. Halloween and dress up was make believe and not a care in the world. That was really when my love of makeup, beauty and creating characters really started.
One of the bigger events I got to attend was an Alice in Wonderland costume party. Once I received my invitation it was instant excitement. My mind started racing with concepts about all the possible makeup looks or costumes ideas to use. Did I want to go with the classic Disney style or the Tim Burton look? Revisiting this tale, I became inspired by Alice and her classic story. One that ignites the readers imagination, one that all who read get lost and fall with her into the whimsical world of Wonderland.
There are not enough words to describe the "wonder" of this party and the beauty of the decorations. As we drove our car up the driveway it felt as if we, too, were falling down the rabbit hole There was a big Cheshire Cat in the tree, signs pointing us in every direction, the white rabbit's clock leading the path to the party . The amount of details that went into the decorations was beyond magical. I felt like I could have climbed up on the mushroom and smoked the hooka with the caterpillar. It was honestly one of the best and most magical events I have attended. Not to forget, an opportunity for me to create my own interpretation of the Red Queen.
